Overview
A magnetic drill is a portable drilling machine with an electromagnetic base that clamps directly onto steel workpieces, allowing accurate holes to be drilled on site in beams, plates and structures that cannot be taken to a pedestal drill. Most are used with annular (core) cutters, which remove only a ring of material and so cut large holes faster and with less power than twist drills. Magnetic adhesion force, cutter capacity, cutting depth, stroke and spindle speeds define the machine's working range.
