Overview
Permanent-magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) avoid rotor current losses, so they can reach IE4 or IE5 efficiency levels and often deliver more torque from a smaller frame than an induction motor. They need a drive that supports permanent-magnet motor control. Selection depends on rated torque and speed, peak torque, the drive's voltage and current, cooling and mounting.
