Overview
Yeast propagation tanks let a brewery build up its own yeast from a laboratory culture under controlled temperature and aeration, reducing reliance on purchased yeast and the risk of contamination. Key selection points are vessel volume relative to fermenter size, pressure rating, temperature control, sterile aeration and sampling arrangements, and whether a two- or three-tank propagation sequence is required.
Typical applications
- Propagating brewing yeast from lab culture
- Yeast storage and re-pitching
- Pilot-scale fermentation trials
