Overview
In brewing, a two-stage plate heat exchanger cools boiled wort from near boiling to pitching temperature in one pass, typically using mains or recovered water in the first stage and chilled glycol or water in the second. Sizing depends on the required flow rate, inlet and outlet temperatures, available cooling media, plate material and gasket compatibility with the product and cleaning chemicals.
